6 Key Elements of Successful Squeeze Pages

Squeeze pages are one of the most effective ways to build a list. Though they are usually short, there are several elements that are needed to make them effective. Here are six of the things every squeeze page must have.

Graphics – Squeeze pages run the gamut from a mostly white page with a table border, headline, a few bullet points and opt-in form all the way to flashy audio/video presentations. Each has it’s place, but the key is to be visually appealing without being distracting. You want people to sign up, not be in awe of your graphics.

Above the fold – People seeing your page should be able to make a decision without having to scroll down. You can have stuff below the fold, but be sure the most important things remain above it.

Opt-in form – It’s not a squeeze page if people don’t have a way to take action. In fact, you can include a place for them to enter their information in more than one place on the page. One above the fold, and the other below, for example.

Headline – The headline is the first thing people are going to read. It needs to be written in a way the uses lively language and creates a burning curiosity for your visitors to read more. There is some debate over the length of headlines, but when it comes to squeeze pages it’s better to keep them as short as possible. I’m not going to mention an arbitrary maximum number of words, as long as every word in the headline serves its purpose it should be fine.

Tight writing – Make a ‘no fluff’ rule when writing your squeeze pages. Highlight the best benefits to make it clear what’s in it for them. You want them to make a quick decision to sign up, and the text on the page needs to reflect that. Once you have convinced your visitor to sign up, you don’t want to unconvince them with wordiness. Think of every single word as performing the role of eliciting a sign-up. If a word doesn’t do that, then get rid of it.

Call to action – Just throwing all of these elements together won’t be as effective if you don’t tell people what to do. Tell them more than once, and do so clearly. Their purpose is to get what you are offering, your purpose is to get their information. If you are giving them something of quality, then you are doing them a favor by letting them know exactly how to get it.
