Domain Searching with BustAName
This is a follow up to Tatiana’s How to Create a Domain Name article which listed 4 different websites for domain searching and registering. Here we’ll be describing one of the other sites that you can use for domain searching – Bust a Name.
Bust a Name is strictly a “word combiner site”. The way this works is that the site will have you enter a list of keywords related to your website. Once the keywords are entered, it will generate every possible combination of these keywords in order to create a list of available domain names. So, the more keywords you enter, the larger the available list of options for domain names will be.
If you happen to have a short list of keywords and you need help creating more, you can select any keyword you have and Bust a Name will display other synonymous words. This would be equivalent to looking up each of your keywords in a thesaurus and finding similar words. If you find a synonym that you like, you can add it as another keyword, and any additional domain names containing that keyword will appear in a list.
You also have the ability to group certain keywords together by creating one or more Groups. You can then move each of your keywords into one the groups. The purpose of this feature is that Bust a Name will then only combine the list of keywords within a single group together. This is handy if you have some keywords that have the same meaning (e.g. look, locate, search, etc.), and you don’t want a domain name that has any combination of these keywords.
As you add or remove keywords, a list of available domain names is created. This list can become quite long, so Bust a Name provides the ability to sort the list in different ways:
- Insert Order – shows the available domains in the order that the names were created
- Alphabetical (A-Z) – sorts the domain names in alphabetical order
- Quality (Readability) – sorts the domain names by what Bust a Name thinks are the “best” names. We’re not sure how the site measures what is “the best” but this is a neat feature nonetheless.
- Length – sorts the domain names by length.
Once you’ve selected a domain name (or several) you can add them to your shopping cart. Then you can go ahead and register them with a domain registering company through Bust a Name. You have several to choose from such as:
- GoDaddy
- Omnis
- Dotster
- Yahoo
- Network Solutions
- Etc.
There are several other capabilities available and you can learn a lot more than we can provide here. Simply watch the 5 minute tutorial to become familiar with them.
Cheers!
